Italy is So Good at Gluten Free

Jul 7, 2018 | gluten free

Who would have thought that Italy was so good at doing gluten free (GF). I downloaded the AiC Mobile app. This is a bit challenging to navigate without knowing Italian but not bad at all. The best feature is an interactive map of Italy that has all the food places and bed and breakfast places in Italy certified through the “Associazione Italiana Celiachia”. The Italian Celiac Association.  Just zoom in to where you are and all the locations are available to click on. When we first arrived in Florence, we went to a lovely mom and pop restaurant we found through the site and had great GF pizzas. 4 really different kinds of GF pizza with all 4 of us sharing.

But possibly even better has been all the restaurants that do GF that we found on our own as we are just walking around town. The previous blog post talked about one that had that “Holy Grail” GF tiramisu and which we found on a list of best restaurants in town.

As we were visiting the Medici Chapels we found 2 right across the street from each other.

As we were walking though a square near our Airbnb, another one.

Even restaurants that don’t formally do GF options have so many GF options. It’s totally crazy. This next image is a pasta dish that is not just GF but also cow’s milk dairy free (DF). Just sheep’s cheese and chicken.
