Guided imagery may be best described as:

  1. A mind-body modality that can clarify the relationship between the patient’s thoughts, emotions, and physical status
  2. A way to reduce anxiety when preparing for surgery and medical interventions.
  3. A distraction technique that can reduce anxiety and pain
  4. All of the above

Look at all we know about interventions about which many healthcare providers might try to tell you, “we don’t have any scientific information which says that type of thing will help you get better.” Remember, the amount of scientific data we have is doubling every 73 days in 2020. If someone tries to tell you we don’t know something, they probably just haven’t spent the time needed to learn the scientific information.
